North Fork • A UVA Discovery Park

Motiska Design has been retained to develop a new Master Sign Plan for North Fork — a discovery park where the University of Virginia’s spirit of ingenuity fuels dynamic collaboration and innovation.

Located just a few miles north of Charlottesville, Virginia, North Fork spans more than 500 acres and brings together a diverse mix of science and technology firms, government agencies, academic institutions, startups, and nonprofit organizations. The park is designed to be a place where new ideas take shape, partnerships form, and groundbreaking work can grow.

As the campus continues to evolve, clear navigation and a cohesive visual identity are essential to creating a welcoming and functional environment for tenants, employees, and visitors alike. A thoughtful signage program plays a key role in shaping how people experience and move through a place like North Fork.

Motiska Design has been engaged to create a comprehensive signage master plan that will guide the development of the park’s wayfinding and identification system. The project will include a full range of signage types such as entry monuments, vehicular wayfinding signs, pedestrian directional signage, building identification, and building name signage.

Each element of the system will be carefully designed to work together as a cohesive program that reflects the innovative spirit of North Fork while providing practical navigation throughout the campus. The goal is to create signage that is not only functional, but also reinforces the identity and forward-thinking character of the park.

Designing signage for a campus of this scale requires careful planning and coordination. The Master Sign Plan will establish clear guidelines for placement, hierarchy, typography, materials, and color to ensure the system can grow alongside the park while maintaining consistency and clarity.
